I organize Teaching Seminar, the Math and Stats Department's professional development workshop series. Here is a list of the currently planned seminars for Fall 2024, as well as previous semesters' seminars. 

 

Fall 2024: 

September 23rd: Using LaTeX for teaching materials. Led by Matt Bourque

September 30th: Improving Math Teaching via Partnering with the Office of Online Learning (OOL). Led by Tricia Donovan of OOL. 

October 21st (course coordination meeting): Aspects of Good Groupwork Tasks. Led by Alec. 

 

Spring 2024: 

January 30th: What Building Thinking Classrooms has to say about dividing your students into groups for groupwork. Led by Alec. 

February 13th: What Building Thinking Classrooms has to say about homework. Led by Alec. 

March 25th: The role of counterexamples in teaching calculus. Led by Marius Radulescu

April 12th (at the Chicago Symposium at LUC): Group assessments in 100-level math courses. Led by Alla Podolny, Sheila Suresh, and Alec.

February 27th: A talk on Institutional coaching and faculty interactions. Led by Rafa González D'León

March 27th: A discussion on physical and mental health resources that LUC offers its students. Led by the Office of the Dean of Students and the Wellness Center. 

 

Fall 2022: 

August 31st: A welcome back to campus event. Faculty discussed plans for implementing active learning techniques in their classes. Led by Alec and Emily. 

September 19th: A reflection on our department's visitors from the math department of Cal State East Bay. Led by Alec.
